Increasing business value by £180m

This mid tier hotel group was facing some tough growth challenges. Despite having occupancy rates over 80%, the revenue per room was less than £50 and there was significant margin leakage due to the over-reliance on booking intermediaries. We worked with our client on a customer engagement programme to attract a more premium guest segment paying more per night, to drive up direct bookings through investment in the brand proposition, including signature services, loyalty programmes, brand communications and the branded guest experience. Over a 12 month period to exit, the incremental business value delivered was £179m.

Our client is a successful asset based lender serving the SME market, with a strong desire for transformational growth through customer acquisition and growing total customer value. Having conducted an Independent Marketing Review (IMR), we identified the key growth levers and set about designing and implementing strategies and tactics to deliver the growth ambition. Our client was a traditional publisher with over 90 brands, reaching 130m people. However the publishing industry is being heavily disrupted by digital media. Our client needed to transform, rapidly. We supported our client through a programme of M&A activity to identify and acquire digital specialists in key industry verticals. Our Independent Marketing Review (IMR) process of benchmarking potential targets against 42 marketing capability areas acted as a key input to M&A decision making, ultimately ensuring that potential targets could deliver on our clients growth ambition and transformation agenda.
